Join us for a lecture co-presented by artists Christopher Najera and Fernando Alvarez. As artists, we spend a lot of time discussing our opinions and the formal properties of artwork, but what makes a critique both beneficial and stimulating as a conversation? These two artists will discuss their approach to critique, tools and formats, and engage in a live critique of artwork as a demonstration.

Christopher Najera is an artist based in Fort Worth, Texas and a current MFA candidate at TCU. Christopher is part of and works with the local mutual aid and immigration justice groups here in DFW. His work deals with the intersectionality of identities, his Chicanx roots, queer identity, and the current cultural zeitgeist.

Originally from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Fernando Alvarez moved to North Texas in 2006. His concept-driven work uses his displacement from Honduras to explore broader themes like paranoia, culture, and class, often with a humorous or flippant tone at his own expense. Through an interdisciplinary practice, Fernando examines the eccentricities of his background to better understand himself and the subcultures he navigates. Fernando is also a co-founder of Easyside, a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Easyside is an art space in East Fort Worth that provides career resources for artists and addresses food access and equity in the area. Currently, Fernando is an Assistant Curator of Education at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.

Join us for an artist lecture led by artist and jeweler, Atinuke Adeleke. Centered on the convergence of studio practices and conceptual exploration, Atinuke will share her concepts, her making process, and her art's connection to personal narrative. Half artist bio and half informative methods in research, this lecture centers on her lived experience as a Nigerian who has traversed three continents and how it feeds into the crafting of her work.

Atinuke Osibogun-Adeleke is an interdisciplinary artist and a graduate of the University of North Texas. As the owner and lead designer of the home and body adornment brand, Zuri Perle, she channels her artistic vision into captivating creations that blend tradition with innovation.

Her artistic practice revolves around themes of personal history, connection, and identity, reflecting her journey as a Nigerian who has traversed three continents. Atinuke's work explores the deconstruction, reassembly, and hybridization of her identity through sculpture and fiber pieces. These creations seamlessly integrate the traditional culture and practices of her homeland, Nigeria, with western woodworking techniques and modern processes such as CAD, 3D printing, and CNC routing.
